Without light there can be no life.
God knew this, so He created light first. Or should I rather capitalise that and say, He created Light first. The Bible teaches us in John 1 that in the beginning "was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it."
Without "light at the end of the tunnel" we feel hopeless in difficult situations. When there is no light in the eye of a loved one, you know they are troubled. When there is no light in a room, we cannot see... duh...
Jokes aside. What made me think of this today, was a profound fact that Mark Batterson shares in his book, Whisper, about the conception of a child. They did a study and used some super-duper machine that can see light waves or rays that we cannot see with the eye. They then discovered that the moment the sperm cell enters the egg cell, sparks literally fly. Wow! There are some very scientific words in the explanation, but they had me at "light". Again, God displays His absolute awesome care and attention to detail in the smallest scale imaginable. Light is generated when life is generated. He did so when He brought everything into existence, He did so when He saved everything in existence through the Light of our Messiah, and He does so everyday when babies are conceived, the sun rises in the morning, the stars shimmer at night, photosynthesis transforms nature, when we need something to read by, to celebrate by, remember people by, and to save lives by.
The darkness around us is broken by a single candle. The darkness in the spiritual realm cannot exist where there is Light. Let us confuse darkness. Let your light shine today.
Seek the Light and experience life.
